Jean(Conroy) Cosentino has gone home. Jean the daughter of Daniel and Mary (Stevens) Conroy was born on September 23 1928 in Ossining New York. The family moved to White Plains where her father was a firefighter for the city of White Plains. She graduated from White Plains(N.Y.) High School class of ‘47. She was the wife of the late Louis Cosentino and mother to the late Denice Crawford. For several years Jean and her husband managed Cemetery Floral in Valhalla N.Y. Where the had the pleasure of providing flowers for family members such notables as Babe Ruth. The family moved to Rockland County N.Y. there she worked for Western Electric and the Ramapo School district as a school lunch manager.
Following Louis’s retirement they moved to Florida. Where her daughter and her husband Alan Crawford had settled. Following several years of retirement leisure Jean was looking for a way to spend her time. Being an active reader she joined the DeBary Library Association and served a year on its executive board.
Recalling her early exposure to the fire service following her father around the fire house, Jean joined the DeBary Volunteer Firemen’s Association. Shortly afterward she and her family started the Mutual Aid Support Team of the Volusia County Department of Fire Services. Jean continued to serve in the fire service as a member of the Fire Prevention Team retiring after 20 years of volunteer service. At the time of her death she was a life member of the DeBary Volunteer Firemen’s Association.
Following the deaths in 2010 of Louis and Denice, Jean continued to live in the home she and Louis shared for thirty year. Following a period of failing health she moved to Orange City Nursing and Rehab Center in DeBary. The family wishes to thank the staff for the loving care shown Jean in her final years.
The family also wishes to thank the ICU staff of Florida Hospital Fish Memorial who care for her in her final days. And to special people of Florida Hospital Hospice who cared for her during her final hours.
Jean is survived by her sister Mary Ellen Boufford and her husband John. Her son in law Alan Crawford and his wife Judy. Her sister in law Clara Verano and her husband Tony. Nephews Frank Cosentino and Lloyd Christensen. Nieces Paulette Parent, Rosemarie and Diane Verano, Sybil Christensen, Kathy Massaro and her husband Ron.
