Jan Sullivan

A visitation for Jan will be held Thursday, January 11, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Deltona Memorial Funeral Home, 1295 Saxon Blvd, Orange City, FL 32763. A committal service will occur Thursday, January 11, 2024 from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM at Deland Memorial Gardens, 600 E Beresford Ave, DeLand, FL 32724. A funeral service will occur Thursday, January 11, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 1295 Saxon Blvd, Orange City, FL 32763.

Lydia J Sullivan, 73, of Deltona, went to be with Lord on January 2, 2024.

She is survived by her husband Steven Sullivan, brothers Lloyd William Gibbons (Sharon), and Charles William (Bud) Gibbons III (Patti); sons Thomas Charles Powers and Bryan Scott Powers (Theresa); grandchildren Abigail, Miles, Evelyn, and Henry.

She was known, and preferred to be called by her middle name, Jan. She married Steven Sullivan on November 17, 1994.

Jan worked a variety of jobs while supporting her family. In 1995, when her husband was assigned to Strike Fighter Squadron 27, the Commanding Officer asked her to be his personal liaison between him and the wives of the enlisted personnel; a job at which she thoroughly excelled, especially when the squadron moved to Japan. Her day time job was secretary for the Commodore of all fleet air units in the western pacific, but in the evening she taught English at a school; and a few students in her home. She held these positions for four years; until her husband retired.

Jan had a passion for photography, planting flowers and going fishing. No matter how unimportant it seemed, she took a picture of it; from scenic views to inspiring photos from the top of Mt. Fugi in Japan.

She loved the spring and planting flowers; turning an empty piece of land into a kaleidoscope of colors. It fulfilled a need in her to create, and it sure made for a pretty landscape.

Her biggest passion was fishing. While more fish got away than she caught, she could sit on a pier for hours and hours insisting that she “just got a bite”.

Jan will always be remembered for her kindness and thoughtfulness to everyone. Hearts are broken by her passing, but those same hearts are a little better for having her in their lives.
