Marguerite Marie Hollinger, 101 years old, of Mansfield passed away at her home on July 6, 2024, in Mansfield with her family by her side. She was born in Mansfield, Ohio, on May 10, 1923, to the late Isabell “Lettie” (Bittinger) and Earl Sweval.
Marge began bowling in the 1950s until she was in her 90s. Her first game was a 149 and there it started. She and her husband, Ted, “had so much fun” bowling with new friends. She became the league secretary and treasurer for years. Marge worked behind the desk at Village Lanes, was a proud member of the Mansfield Women’s Bowling Association for several years, and was inducted into the Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 2014.
Marge spent many hours volunteering at Woodland Elementary School as the librarian. She was a Jr. bowling coach, teaching kids the sport she loved, and was a scout leader for many years. Marge, along with Ted, heavily supported all of their children’s numerous and diverse activities throughout the years. She also worked hand in hand supporting Ted in their television repair business. She and her husband were lifelong members of First English Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school.
If you wanted to see Marge’s face light up, talk about her grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Jean Mayer, Ted (Pat) Hollinger, Jr., Debbie (Ken) Beeman and Judy Gleason; eight grandchildren, Daphne (Dan) Weppner, Stephne (Mitch) Haddad, Ted (Lindsay Beal) Hollinger, Jr. II, Michelle Hollinger, Jessica (Brandon) Bailey, Jennifer (T.J.) Fanning, Billy (Tia Sipe) Gleason and Jake (Andrea Little) Gleason; fifteen great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; a sister, Darlene Brown; and several nieces and nephews.
Marguerite was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Albert Hollinger; her parents; three brothers, Russell Chew, Charles Sweval and Earl Sweval, Jr; three sisters, Mae Lantz, Naomi Workman and Marie Kiner; son-in-law, Terry Mayer; and brother-in-law, Robert Brown.
