Joseph Neil Smith

Joseph Neil Smith, 73, of Mansfield, Ohio passed away at his home on March 8, 2023. He was born October 15, 1949 and raised in Raven, Virginia to the late William and Ellen (Moore) Smith. He later moved to Mansfield, Ohio and made it his home.

Joseph worked many jobs throughout his life. He had worked as a coal miner, car salesman, insurance salesman, electrician and mechanic. He loved working with his hands and enjoyed carpentry, fixing things and tinkering with cars. Joseph cared a lot about his family and cherished the time spent with them, especially sharing meals together. He was very knowledgeable and liked discussing politics and reading his Bible. He was an avid sports fan and loved to watch baseball; his favorite team was the Cleveland Indians.

Joseph is survived by his children, Jolene (Brian) Street, Natalie (Matt Justice) Smith, Anthony (Brian Schrump) Smith, Isabella (David Horning) Dye, Andrew (Dallas Leadingham) Dye and Chase (Jada) Smith; brother, William (Wanda) Smith; sister, Francis Van Dyke; in-laws, Florinda (Ralph) Griffith; grandchildren, Dylon Dye, Hayley Dye, Chandler Hylton, Skyler Arms, Peyton Arms, Michaela Arms, Arabella Horning, and Ava Horning; great-grandchildren, Karter Arms and Aiden Arms; breakfast friends, Gary (Yvonne) Thomas, Bill, Paul and Buddy; dog, Maddie; and other cherished family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Florencia; brother-in-law, Lee Van Dyke; and grandson, Isaiah Arms.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 14, 2023 at Wappner Funeral Directors – Ontario, 100 Lexington-Springmill Rd. S., Ontario, Ohio 44906. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
