Erik Ray Carpenter, 42 years old, of Ontario, Ohio, passed away on June 18, 2024 at OSU Wexner Medical Center. He was born in Monterey, California, on August 8, 1981 to Sujin (Hahn) and Michael Carpenter.
Erik spent most of his youth in Maryland. His father was in the Air Force and when he retired, the family moved to Ohio. He was one of three children and graduated from Galion High School. Erik joined the Marine Corps and served for two years. He met his sweetheart in high school and reconnected with her in 2008 and they were married for 15 years.
He enjoyed soccer with his daughter, Mercadies, and bonded with his son, Logan, playing video games. He loved being outside and enjoyed shooting, hiking and went on family camping trips every year. Erik coached youth soccer, was a long-time fan of the Columbus Crew and enjoyed attending many of their soccer matches. He loved cooking and baking cheesecakes.
Erik is survived by his wife, Crystal (Chelski) Carpenter; mother, Sujin Carpenter; children, Mercadies Owens and Logan Carpenter; brother, Michael Keith Carpenter; sister, Lori Mittelstadt; aunts, Bonnie Green and Sharon McKenny; and many nieces and nephews. Erik’s spirit carries on through his service dog, Pumba.
Erik was preceded in death by his father, Michael Ray Carpenter; maternal and paternal grandparents; aunts, Betty Carpenter and Kay Leech; and uncles, Tom Carpenter and Charles Carpenter.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at Wappner Funeral Directors – Ontario, 100 S. Lexington Springmill Rd.
