Richard Spencer McElvany, born on November 24, 1942, in Upland, California, left this world on June 18, 2024. He was a loving husband to Kathy McElvany for over 60 years, and a devoted father to his children Laura Miller and Travis McElvany. Richard is survived by his two brothers, Jim McElvany and Ken McElvany, and sister, Virginia Lewis.
Richard was known for his warm heart and unwavering dedication to his family.
Professionally, Richard was the co-owner of McElvany Insurance located in Ontario, California. During his professional career Richard served as the President of the Ontario Rotary Club, Chairman of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce and was a founding member of the Ontario Visitors & Convention Bureau.
In addition to being a successful businessman, Richard had a passion for competitive skeet shooting. He served on the search committee for the 1984 Olympics which built the Prado Olympic Shooting Park in Chino California. Richard also took pride in being a member of The California Indians; a competitive skeet shooting club founded in 1919. Richard attended many shooting events across the western US and found solace in the precision and focus required by the sport while forming lasting friendships.
The McElvany family will hold a private service at Draper Mortuary in Ontario California at 10:00am on August 24, 2024, to honor Richard's memory among close friends and relatives as they celebrate his remarkable life.
While we mourn his passing deeply, we take comfort in knowing that he is at peace now.
