March 18, 1931- February 14, 2019
Gertrude Caroline (Vander Tuig) Docter went to her heavenly home to be with her Lord and Savior on
February 14, 2019, with her family at her side.
Gertrude was born on March 18, 1931 in Sheldon, Iowa. She was one of seven children born to Dick and
Alice Vander Tuig. At a very young age her family moved from Iowa to California.
Gertrude is preceded in death by her faithful husband, Henry Docter of 68 years. Together they owned
Mclean's Stationary store. Gertrude was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
She loved baking, cooking, sewing. She made leather booties for the dogs involved in the search and
rescue of the victims in the 9-11 attack. She drove school bus for Ontario Christian School, enjoyed
camping, gardening and she had a caring heart for those with special needs.
She was a member of the 1st United Reformed Church of Chino, California
Gertrude is survived by her four daughters; Alva Joan Ellefson of Upland, California, Aileen (Jerry) Stueve
of Ontario, California, Charlene (Jerry) De Jong of Camas, Washington and Corinne (Gary) Visser of
Sunnyside, Washington. Gertrude was blessed with 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. She is
also survived by her brothers Shorty Vander Tuig, Dale Vander Tuig, and her sister Mary Jean Vanden
Brink. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Milen Vander Tuig, Lambert Vander Tuig and
her sister Henrietta Harmsen and son-in-law Bob Ellefson.
The family would like to thank the staff at Oakmont of Chino Hills, for the love and exceptional care they
showed our mother and our family. Services will be held at 10:30a.m.,Thursday, February 21, 2019 at 1rst United Reformed Church of Chino 6159 Riverside Dr. in Chino, California.
