She was born September 12, 1970, in Kingston, NY, to John C. and Beverley (Sawyer) Newkirk. Monica married Larry Stepp on May 3, 2014.
Monica and Larry lived in Arizona for a period time before moving back to the Oneonta area in 2002.
Monica worked for the Office of the Aging through Otsego County. She also worked for Unatego School District in the school cafeteria for a period of time which she really enjoyed.
Monica was a devoted loving mother, wife, and grandmother. She enjoyed attending and watching her children’s school sporting events—she was always proud of their accomplishments. Monica and her family made many trips to Arizona over the years as well as other parts of the country. She enjoyed cooking and cherished her time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband Larry Stepp of Otego; her mother, Beverly Newkirk of Oneonta; her daughters, Jena Parker of Oneonta, Dana Stepp (Caden Clow) of Otego, and Katelin Applegate (Armondo Quintana) of Show Low, AZ; 6 loving grandchildren, Eliana, Addison, and Madelyn Kaufman, Brodi and Braidin Applegate as well as Javier Quintana.
Monica is also survived by her brothers, Jim (Gladys) Faulkner, Tim Faulkner; her Sisters, Beverly Dammier, Dody (Donny) Lindberg, and Sandy Marino.
Monica was predeceased by her father John C. Newkirk.
Calling hours will be held from 2-4 PM Friday, July 23, 2021 in the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main Street, Oneonta, NY, at which time the family will be in attendance.
A funeral service will be held immediately following at 4 PM in the Bookhout Funeral Home with John W. Buddle, Pastor of Elm Park United Methodist Church, officiating.
