Joyce Harkenreader

She was born on December 5, 1934 in Oneonta, the daughter of Bertha and Fay Kelley. Joyce married the love of her life, Frank Harkenreader, on December 10, 1950.

Joyce and Frank raised four children who survive, Robert (Cathy) of Missouri, Terry (Carla) of Oneonta, James (Charity) of Mt. Vision, and a special daughter Karen, who took care of both her parents till their passing.

Joyce gave unconditional love to many children who needed care. Joyce and Frank were always pleased to see these now young adults, especially Tysha and Gary.

Joyce had 10 grandchildren she loved and enjoyed seeing grow over the years, as well as 24 great grandchildren which she had often in her home and were very special to her.

She is also survived by 2 dear sisters, Shirley Collins of Ft. Edward, NY, and Betty Lou Clark of Davenport, NY.

She was predeceased by her husband; parents; a sister, Jane DeCarr; a brother, James Kelley, a son in law, Edward Ryder; and a special grandson, Johnathan Robbins.

The family wishes to thank a very special friend, Denise Morgan, who they leaned on for support during this time of grief. As well as Joyce’s nurse from Helios Care, Paula Johnson.

A celebration of life will take place on Sunday, December 8, 2024 from 1 to 4 pm at the Oneonta American Legion Post #259, 279 Chestnut Street, Oneonta.

Arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home of Oneonta.
