He was born on April 18, 1939 in New Haven, CT, the son of Joseph Sr. and Florence (Messercola) Martino.
Joe served his country during the Vietnam era in the US Navy. He was honorably discharged in 1966.
Joe was employed for 18 years as Director of Auxiliary Services Finance at CADI (the College Association at Delhi, Inc.) on the SUNY Delhi campus. During that time he also proudly served as Board Treasurer at the Delhi Child Care Center for many years.
Of his numerous interests, Joe was especially passionate about saltwater boating and fishing, being on the water, and finding the best salmon in town. He also loved camping, jazz music, Latin percussion, playing the flute, solving Sudoku puzzles, knowing the weather at all times, and watching the ever-growing menagerie of animals that frequented his beautiful backyard.
Joe is survived by his blessed daughter, Jennifer Martino; a brother Robert Martino, and sister-in-law Maria Martino; a sister-in-law, Ingrid Chrismond; treasured nieces and nephews: Richard and Christine Martino, and children Molly and Robert; Heidi and Rudy Fasano, and children Eva and Alexa; Brian Johnson and fiancée Sherri Cordelli; and Pam and Wally Van Auken, and children Faith, Emily, Courtney, Caleb, and Hannah.
Joe was especially grateful for such wonderful friends: Jackie, Dan, Barry, Kitty, Carol M., Jim, Tracy, Giselle, Carol K., Dottie, Pris, Bettie, Bob, Ronnie, and his entire CADI family.
Joe was predeceased by Ellen, his loving wife of 34 years; his cherished parents, Joseph and Florence Martino; and his beloved nephew, Robert Martino, Jr.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 27 at 2pm at First United Methodist Church on Chestnut Street in Oneonta.
Following the service, there will be a catered reception in the church's reception hall.
Burial will take place in the First United Methodist Church Columbarium.
Of his numerous attributes, two of Joe's greatest were his generosity and desire to help others. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to "Help Harry Come Home," a fundraiser to enable a close family friend (with an incurable brain tumor) to maintain the quality of life he so greatly deserves.
