He was born March 5, 1943 in Utica, the son of John B. and Sophia F. (Pitfido) Cain.
He graduated from St Francis de Sales HS in 1960 and Niagara University in 1964. He was commissioned as second lieutenant in the US Army serving in Germany achieving the rank of captain. He was honorably discharged in 1967.
He was employed at the USPS main branch front desk in Utica for several years before transferring to Herkimer, retiring in 2013.
He was united in marriage to Mary Ellen (Mame) Dorritie in Englewood, Colorado. Shortly after the birth of their son, John Patrick, they returned to central New York to be with family and friends.
In his retirement, Paul and his wife crisscrossed the country seeking out "off the beaten path" places, jokingly saying they wanted to live a year in every state.
Paul was a life long NY Yankees and Buffalo Bills fan. He enjoyed running The Boilermaker, power walking, hiking, camping and just about any outdoor activity. When he wasn't running The Boilermaker, he dressed as Santa and passed out ice for The New Vision Telephone Pioneers. At age 6, he started vacationing with his parents and siblings at the St Lawrence River and did so annually until his passing. He was a true "River Rat", it was his happy place.
Paul is survived by his wife, Mame, son John Patrick Cain of Kentucky, sisters Sarah Kelly Falk (Joseph) Waterville, Susan C. Cromer, Washington State, brother Dennis P. Cain (Cathy), Rochester, and brother-in-law Richard Dorritie, Florida.
Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, great niece, great nephews, cousins and marvelous friends. He is also survived by his cherished niece and Goddaughter, Jessica A. Desany (Christopher), and special nephews Michael J. Falk (Debbie), and Brian P. Falk (Rebecca).
He was predeceased by his parents and several aunts and uncles.
There will be no calling hours.
