He was born January 21, 1944, the son of Mary Shearer and Clifford A Bordinger. A resident of Oneonta, he met and married Mary A. Beach on August 6, 1966. They moved to West Laurens where they raised their children and welcomed their grandchildren. Along with many family gatherings and chicken BBQ’s, they enjoyed almost 50 years of memories in their forever home.
In the early years Don worked for Shearer’s Express until the family business of Bordinger Trucking started in 1969, which is now run by his son Donald and grandson Brent. Donnie then went to work for Suit-Kote for several years. After retirement he was fortunate to work for the Certified Auto family to fill his time and continue to make long-lasting relationships.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary A. Bordinger; son and daughter-in-law who he always thought of as a daughter Donald and Maureen Bordinger of Parrottsville, TN; daughter and son-in-law Cynthia and Brian Utter of Oneonta, NY; his oldest granddaughter and partner in crime, Lisa Bordinger of Parrottsville, TN. his “Buggie”, Dr. Brianna Utter and her fiancé Dalton Carver of Oneonta, NY; his only grandson and his wife Brent (“Woody”) and Carolyn Bordinger of Parrottsville, TN; his youngest grandbaby, the artist Jenna Bordinger of Boston MA; his youngest and dear brother and sister-in-law, Morrison C. & Jo Bordinger of Davenport Center, NY; two special brothers-in-law, John R. Beach of Winter Haven, FL and Jesse (Tut) Tuttle of Greenwich, NY; and several nieces and nephews close to his heart.
Don, Donnie, Dinger, Homer, Dad or Poppy was easy to love. He always made friends easily and was always down for a drink. No words can express the sorrow that we feel knowing that we will not have this kind soul with us anymore. We will cherish all the stories and fond memories we have of this great man. Our family is eternally grateful for the self-sacrificing aid and compassion of neighbors and friends, Kyle and Sam Martin and Andy Segar.
Donald was predeceased by his father, mother; sister, Patsy Lee of Whittier CA; brother, Jack Bordinger of Oneonta, NY and sisters-in-law, Carol Tuttle of Greenwich, NY and Mary Ellen (Dolly) Beach of Durango, CO.
A graveside service will take place with the family at The Plains Cemetery, followed by a Celebration of Life open to the public on Saturday, November 2nd at 3pm at the American Legion, 279 Chestnut Street, Oneonta, NY.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Laurens Emergency Squad for all their appreciated services.
