He was born on Sept. 29, 1942, in Oneonta, to James and Mable Powell. He graduated from Oneonta High School in the class of 1959. He married Betty Asquith on Feb. 3, 1962. They just celebrated their 60th anniversary.
He started working for F. W. Woolworth Company, as an assistant manager, both in Oneonta and Utica, NY. He then went to work for City Electric as an apprentice, becoming a journeyman electrician. As a member of the I.B.E.W, he worked on many large local projects. In the early 70’s Brian and his wife Betty started The Powell Company, retiring after 40 years. He passed the torch to his children, who have carried on his legacy. This provided him with endless source of pride.
He was a man who took great satisfaction in providing for his family, friends and loved ones. He was most often found immersed in home projects, and spent his lifetime creating a home for his family of which he was proud.
Known for a love of puns, he loved a laugh as well as a groan. His sense of humor was an essential part of his life, and was the delight of those who knew him.
Brian was an avid reader, who loved science and history. He and Betty had many trips and adventures together, the highlight being their 25th anniversary trip to Australia.
