She was born on September 21, 1941 in Salisbury, Maryland, the daughter of Leslie and Mattie (Tharrington) Twigg.
Betty was a waitress at Diana’s Restaurant in Oneonta for 17 years. Prior to that, she worked at Woolworth’s Snack Bar. She was a member of the Oneonta Historical Society and Catskill Area Hospice.
She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Betty enjoyed many hobbies including gardening, jigsaw puzzles and doing crosswords, researching history, collecting spoons, and going to lawn sales.
She is survived by her daughters, Joann Carr of Oneonta, and Yvonne and Marty Wilkens of Maryland; a daughter-in- law, Donna and Steve Underhill of Newark, DE; 5 grandchildren, Amy and Jeremy Platt of Newark, DE, Natasha Wilkens of Maryland, Corey Carr of Laurens, and Ryan Carr of Raleigh NC; 5 great grandchildren, Emma Platt of Delaware, Asher and Langston Rose, and Harbor and Armory Ambrose; 2 sisters, Virginia Ford of Delmar, DE, and Viola and Vaughn Payne of Fruitland, MD; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a son, William Platt; a grandson, Tyler Carr; a brother and sister-in-law, Benjamin and Mabel Twigg; a brother-in-law, Merrill Reddish, as well as her parents Leslie and Mattie (Tharrington) Twigg.
Friends are invited to greet the family on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 from 12-2 pm at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main Street, Oneonta.
A graveside service will immediately follow in Laurens Cemetery, Laurens.
