Marilyn K. (Price) Curran

Marilyn Kathleen (Price) Curran was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa on November 6, 1940 as the only child of Gale Roscoe Price and Lorene Anastasia (McGarry) Price. She grew up in a house her father built off Madison Ave in Council Bluffs.

Serving her faith as a Catholic, she became a novitiate after high school. While starting to take her vows, she attended college and became a biology teacher at a Catholic high school in Arizona.

Before she committed to serving God as a nun, she believed her life would not be complete without a family of her own. She left the school/convent in Arizona and returned to Council Bluffs. Marilyn also went back to school at Creighton where she studied to become an RN. For several years, she explored her new career as an OB nurse at St. Joseph's Hospital in Omaha.

In 1970, Marilyn met her husband, John Curran. They married and had their eldest daughter, Eileen, in December 1971. More children followed with Shawn in January 1974 and Erin in December 1976.

Marilyn continued nursing part-time with UNMC, however, John and Marilyn divorced in 1984. Marilyn then began working full-time at UNMC Internal Medicine Clinic. She had a gift of caring for others and it was immensely fulfilling for her. The clinic awarded Marilyn with a caregivers honor and memorial brick at the UNMC caregivers pavilion. She retired from nursing in 2014 after 45 years of devoted care.

After retirement, Marilyn had several years filled through time with her family. She is survived by her children, Eileen, Shawn and Erin; and grandchildren, Alexzai (Peyton), Kiya, Madyson, Logan, Austin, Cody, Katerina, Wesley and Mackenzie.

A visitation for Marilyn will be held Thursday, August 15, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Westlawn-Hillcrest Funeral Home, 5701 Center St, Omaha, Nebraska 68106. A funeral service will occur Friday, August 16, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Westlawn-Hillcrest Funeral Home, with the attendance of the Nebraska Nurse Honor Guard.

Marilyn will be laid to rest in Westlawn-Hillcrest Memorial Park, 5701 Center Street, Omaha, Nebraska 68106.
