Karen Lou Bonenberger (nee Whiteing), aged 75, passed away on Friday, September 8, 2023. Karen was born in Denison, Iowa to her parents Albert and Evelyn Whiteing on January 12, 1948, the first of seven children. She graduated from South High School in Omaha, Nebraska in 1967 and also married Laurence Bonenberger that year. She worked for many years at Omaha Public Power District and retired in 2010.
Karen loved her family and friends and adored being a grandmother. She would visit St. Louis to see her granddaughters and liked taking them out to the park or movies, reading books, helping dye Easter eggs, decorate for Christmas, or celebrate a birthday. She never missed calling to sing Happy Birthday. She enjoyed traveling and had several adventures with her sister-in-law, Shelly Whiteing. She had fun playing cards and games with her sister-in-law, Ellen Bonenberger and made sure not to miss a lunch date with her brother-in-law, Ronald Bonenberger.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Laurence Bonenberger and their son, Trevor Bonenberger, her parents Albert and Evelyn Whiteing, and her brothers, Robert, Raymond and William.
Karen is survived by her daughter, Lori Tabor, her son-in-law Rich Tabor II, her granddaughters Hannah Tabor and Madison Tabor, her brothers Albert Whiteing, Jr. and Charles Whiteing, and her sister Kathleen Fitzgerald.
She was very loved and will be missed.
A visitation for Karen will be held Monday, September 18, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Westlawn-Hillcrest Funeral Home, 5701 Center St, Omaha, Nebraska 68106, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM.
Karen will be laid to rest in Westlawn-Hillcrest Memorial Park, 5701 Center Street, Omaha, Nebraska 68106.
