On September 5, 1951 Jeanne Marie Martins was born in Kearney, NE to Robert Sloan Paschall and Marjorie Elaine (Richards) Paschall. Her father was a music teacher in many different schools, which led Jeanne to live in many different towns growing up. One of Jeanne's memories from living in Alma, NE was her first TV set and singing along with Mitch Miller. She also enjoyed chilifeeds following sledding at the high school there. In Alma, NE she also experienced her first Nebraska tornado.
During grade school Jeanne's father taught business subjects in junior and high schools in Lexington, NE. Jeanne started taking piano and clarinet lessons, participated in Girl Scouts, and church choir. Every Saturday was dedicated to housework, which her mom made sure was done correctly and to her standards. One of Jeanne's jobs was to help with the laundry by taking the dry clothing and sheets off of the clothesline. Her mother loved to iron everything, so Jeanne's chore was to help iron handkerchiefs, pillow cases, tea towels, etc.
While Jeanne lived in Lexington, NE she enjoyed many camping trips throughout various places in Nebraska, Chicago, Ohio, Iowa, and the Rocky Mountains. Her dad would take a carload of kids from the neighborhood to join in on the adventure of ice skating on their favorite pond around Christmas time.
In seventh grade Jeanne was active in the Methodist Youth Group and Girl Scouts outside of school. In school she was active in choir, band, pep club, and even won second place in the science fair with a volcano display with her dad's help. After seventh grade her dad accepted a job under Civil Service to teach business subjects in Palau. Her memories and experiences in Palau are too numerous to list. When Jeanne was fourteen she was sent to an all girls school in Maui, HI.
In January 1967 Jeanne's dad got sick and had to move back to the states. The family all moved to Atkinson, NE where Jeanne made friends easily. Once again Jeanne found herself moving with her family in June 1967, this time to Kearney, NE. Life was a bit tense at this time as her brother, Ron, was in Vietnam.
In August 1968 she moved with her family to McCook, NE. Jeanne graduated from McCook high school in 1970. She became a full time bookkeeper for a Tire Store. She lived at home while attending junior college and working. Jeanne graduated with Phi Thela Kappa honors from the Junior College in 1972. Following graduation Jeanne married Lynn Peterson in 1973 and they divorced in 1980 after 7 years of marriage. Jeanne and Lynn married again in 1985, before deciding to bring Nicole into their lives in 1989. After a few years they decided on a final divorce in 1994.
On December 19, 1997, Jeanne received a call from Stephen Martins to join him at Perkins for dinner, not knowing that she would be spending the rest of her life with him. As she was leaving for a pre planned trip to Palau she decided that if Steve was at the airport to pick her up when she returned he was a keeper for sure. Henceforth, on December 16, 1998 Stephen and Jeanne were married, which means he was at the airport.
Jeanne enjoyed listening to Steve sing karaoke, going on trips, sightseeing, camping, dressing up for halloween and other events, etc. One of her favorite things was collecting seashells and lighthouses.
In December 2013, Jeanne retired from the VA Hospital after 33 years of medical secretarial service due to her memory problems.
Jeanne leaves behind her loving husband of 26 years, Stephen Martins; daughters, Nicole Peterson and Lisa (Ron) Ferguson; grandchildren, Bradley, Angel, Treyton, Travis Jr., Nyshea, and Quinten Jr.; brother, Ron (Gayle) Paschall; and many other family and friends.
