James Gene Fitl, age 83 years, Omaha loved by many, died of cancer on October 30, 2014. While ill, he refused to give in to pain and discomfort, which was typical of the way he took on everything. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Pat, daughter Lynn and son-in-law John Murray, and son Jim and daughter-in-law Amy Fitl. Grandchildren: Johnny & Bobby Murray and Ashley & Jimmy Fitl. One sister Nancy Kratky, sister-in-law & brother-in-law Jean & Ross Pisci, nieces and nephews, cousins, neighbors, and dear friends.
Jim was the oldest of two children. He was the son of Jim and Agnes Fitl. He sold typewriters for Royal Typewriter Company. He met Pat when she was a secretary. They married on September 28, 1962. They went on some nice vacations. They enjoyed Colorado, Hawaii, and San Francisco. They honeymooned in South Dakota. Jim’s favorite vacation was going to Boston to see Bill Russell retire his jersey.
Jim was President of Mid City Bank for 43 years. He gave generously to so many organizations and people. He gave scholarships to Omaha Public Schools graduating seniors. He participated in Make A Wish. He enjoyed Husker football, Boston Celtics, and the Yankees. He loved Elvis.
Jim was a wonderful husband, father, and a devoted and proud grandfather. His grandchildren adored him. He loved going to school programs, sports, dance recitals, and plays. Jim was very loving, kind, caring and giving. There are truly no words that come close to describing how deeply he will be missed. Jim was a gift to us all. A model of how to live life deeply with thoughtful concern for all.
