Preceded in death by mother, Verta Mae Collins; father, Charles C. Collins Sr.; brother, Dallas Collins; sister, Antionette Collins; grandmother, Laura Berry; great-grandmother, Sibbie Berry; and sister-in-law, Shela Collins.
Survived by children, David Collins (Atlanta, GA), LaTosha Brown (Savannah, GA), and Sonya Collins (Omaha, NE); grandchildren, Jabar Marion and wife Symon-Brown Marion (Athens, GA), David Jordan Gass and wife Abbie (Denver CO), Breonna Collins (Omaha, NE), Sherry Golden (Savannah, GA), and Donte Leepr Jr. (Omaha, NE); great-grandchild, Nako Rand (Savannah, GA); sister, Dr. Viv Ewing and husband John Ewing; brother, Ricky Collins; nieces, Christina Ewing, Alexandria Ewing, and Megan Skradsky; nephews, Blain Skradsky, and Tre Stratton; and many other friends and family.
Charles was called home to be with the Lord on November 3, 2022 after a lengthy illness. No matter what he faced Charles remained steadfast in his faith. While in school Charles loved to play sports such as track, basketball, and football. With a desire to serve his country, Charles joined the United States Navy and finished with the rank of AA. He was stationed on the USS Kittyhawk during the Vietnam War. The ship was hit by an enemy missile. As an adult he married Sherry White. Even though they are no longer married, they have remained close friends. He was known for his spirited debates over which football team was the best or going to the playoffs and discussing the bible.
Minister Charles Collins, Jr. was a faithful member of Hope of Glory Church where he served as minister. He loved his church and church family. He always talked about his church fondly. Charles life is a testimony of God’s love, power, and redemption power. He loved a good meal and take- home plate, talking to his children about how to live life, discussing the Lord, and how to handle life situations. Charles made an impact on everyone that he came into contact with.
A visitation for Charles will be held Friday, November 11, 2022 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Hope of Glory Church, 3402 Burt St, Omaha, Nebraska 68131, followed by a funeral service at 10:00 AM.
Charles will be laid to rest in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 7909 Mormon Bridge Rd, Omaha, Nebraska 68152.
