James Bays Shackleford, 75, of Olive Branch, MS passed away on September 21, 2024. Mr. Shackleford was born on December 22, 1948 in Independence, MS to the late John and Zelma Shackleford. He is a 1966 graduate of Olive Branch High School. He loved working with his hands so most of his life he worked in construction. After retirement, he turned his building skills toward Legos and would build model ships, buildings, monuments, etc. During his younger years most of his free time was spent being involved in his children’s activities whether it be Cub Scouts, baseball, or band. He also loved the water. At 69 years old, he received his Bachelor’s Degree from Ole Miss, which was a life-long goal. One of his greatest joys in life was spending time with his grandchildren. He was affectionately known as “Daddy Shack” by his grandchildren and most everyone who knew and loved him. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Louise Shackleford; and his sister, Doris Douglas. He is survived by his son, Billy Shackleford (Jennifer); son, Kevin Shackleford (Angela); son, Steven Shackleford (Ashley); grandchildren: Adam Jordan, Nicholas Shackleford, Kristen Shackleford, Lillian Shackleford, Lacie Kessinger, Georgia Shackleford, and Haylee Peek; great-grandchildren: Elio Jordan, Abby Owens, Garrison Owens, and Braxlee Ryder; sister, Donnie Mae Jamison; brother, John Shackleford, Jr.; and sister, Marsha Harris. The family will receive friends at Brantley Funeral Home for a time of visitation on Thursday, September 26, 2024 from 12-2 pm with a funeral service to begin at 2:00. Burial will follow at New Garden Cemetery.
