Eileen was born in New York City to Joseph and Sarah Magee in 1933. She grew up in New York City, attending Catholic elementary and high school, and graduated from Hunter College in 1955. Eileen and Mark were then married in July of that year and moved to Baltimore, Maryland where they began their family.
Eileen had a deep faith which she shared primarily in her family, but also as a catechist in elementary and middle school, lector in several parishes, participating in Bible study, serving as a leader of the Knoxville Council of Catholic Women and the local St. Francis of Assisi Council. Much of this leadership experience was shared in her Master’s thesis when she earned her Masters of Pastoral Studies from Loyola University in 2002. Eileen and Mark established and developed the Stephen Ministry at St. Francis of Assisi. This ecumenical ministry supports those who are suffering with grief, illness, or other types of loss.
Eileen had many creative talents which she expressed in needlepoint, decorations, and her beautiful homemade greeting cards. She also enjoyed traveling, theater, and reading.
Eileen was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Sarah (Nugent) Magee, and her daughter, Alyson White Hazelton. She is survived by Mark, her husband of 69 years, and sons Mark Jr. (Clarita) of Grand Blanc, MI, Brian (Donna) of Parsons, TN, Paul (Michelle) of Olive Branch, MS, and David (Lihong) of Clarkston, MI. Her surviving grandchildren are Andrew (Rebekah), Alexander (Shara), Nicholas, Benjamin (Jeff), Kaylee, Brendan, and Ismay. Her surviving greatgrandchildren are Lydia, Ruby, and Theodore.
Since Eileen and Mark’s trip to Africa in 2013, Eileen has encouraged the education of children at Our Lady of Nazareth School in Nairobi, Kenya, through her continuous contributions and correspondence with the children.
