Psalm 23:4
This is a long post but if you read it you will understand why.
First of all, our family must announce that our father, Bruce Wring passed away yesterday evening, 7/15/23. We thank you in advance for your condolences & your prayers. We are happy that his suffering here on earth is now over & he is reunited with his family that went on before him.
Yes we have shed some tears & I’m sure there’s more to come but we had a lot of years on earth together. He was 80 years old!
Bruce was a big dreamer, a person who thought big, & a true visionary. He grew up in western Kentucky & told us on many occasions that he never even left the county he lived in till he was 11 years old. After college he worked as a farm appraiser, farm manager, & eventually owned his own farm. He felt God’s calling to preach so he went back to college & earned a Bible degree & pastored in Kentucky.
Bruce Wring had a very unique style of preaching that really resonated with people. While pastoring he loved to do expository preaching which is starting at the beginning of a book in the Bible & going verse by verse through the entire book. Genesis, Exodus, Proverbs, & Revelation were the ones I can remember for sure. He also had some sermons that our family & other folks might remember like:
Chickens, Troubles, Rescue The Perishing, 4 Corners, Iron Shoes, & the Send The Light Presentation. If you grew up a missionary’s kid or a preacher’s kid you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about. You see we heard those over & over so many times as he went to churches to preach that we knew each of those word for word. I even told him one time that he need not worry if he got sick because I could bring the sermon word for word. Lol
After a few years he felt God calling him to the mission field & about a year later our family moved to the island of Guam where he started the very first Protestant church on that island. Harvest Baptist Church was established in 1975 & is thriving to this day. After being there 3 years Pastor Wring as he was referred to felt the call to go to Germany where he started Eiffel Baptist Church in Herforst, Germany to minister to the military personnel serving in the area. That church is also thriving to this day. Several other churches were started in various areas of Germany. He even did some work behind the iron curtain in Romania back in the day. God blessed him & used him in a mighty way! Many lives were changed as a result of those ministries. When dad came off of the mission field he settled in Memphis, TN & went into real estate. Once again the visionary side took over as he learned that there were a lot of people who could not qualify to get a home under the normal mortgage protocols so he started Affordable Management.
Affordable Management was formed to make it possible for people to get homes to live in that they otherwise wouldn’t be able to do. My sisters, mother, & I have worked at Affordable for 25 plus years with Jessica & mom being there from the start. My sisters, mom, & I have been carrying the torch for the last several years & I’m happy to say that Affordable Management is going strong today! To God be all the glory for all of the great things that He has done as always. None of the above things would have happened though if it were not for a man with the vision, a man who answered the call, a man who said let’s go start this, a man who took the steps forward & put a vision in motion, a man who was determined, & a man who said with God’s help I will make things happen. For that we are all grateful so rest in peace dad, we love you, & we thank you for the biblical principles & life lessons that you instilled in us!
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernice Aubrey and Martha Lucille Wring, and sister, Margaret Fryar. Bruce leaves behind his loving wife of 63 years, Virginia Ann Wring; three children, David Bruce Wring (Marilee), Jessica Ann Strawn (Greg), Angela Lynn Sullivan (Scott); two sisters, Barbara Watkins, and Patty Patton.
