OLD TOWN - Mary P. Buchanan, 86, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving children after a brief illness. She was born in Old Town, August 27, 1932 to Edward Pelletier and Flora (Cyr) Pelletier.
Mary grew up in Old Town graduating from Old Town High School and then The University of Maine, Orono in 1954. After graduating she taught for the Howland School District and the Old Town School District where she retired in 1990.
Mary was a lifelong member of the Holy Family Parish and was actively involved in various organizations throughout her life. She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella, The Red Hat Society, and the Old Town/Orono Seniors Citizens.
Mary was a loving and devoted mother to three daughters, Janet Herbert and husband Merlin of Bloomfield, New Mexico; Jody Lucas and husband Jerry of Bradley, Maine; and Martha St. Peter and husband Matthew of Goffstown, New Hampshire. Mary was known as Gram to her eight beautiful grandchildren: she loved them dearly, encouraged them and was very proud of each of them: Janai Schaefer and husband Kyle, Joshua, Jonathan and Rebecca Herbert, Lauren St. Peter and fiancé Ryan Gallant and Taylor St. Peter and her significant other Tyler Gagnon, Jamie Treworgy and husband Bobby, and Heidi Lucas. Mary was also blessed with seven great-grandchildren. Mary also leaves behind a special sister-in-law, Elizabeth Pelletier and many, many special friends.
Mary was predeceased by her husband Richard J. Buchanan and brother, John J. Pelletier.
