James Alan Cambridge

Old Town - James A. Cambridge was called home in the Grace and Love of God at home surrounded by family and friends on December 29th, 2017, after a battle with cancer. Jim was born in Dover-Foxcroft, ME on November 24th, 1947.

Jim was raised in Dover-Foxcroft and graduated from Foxcroft Academy in June of 1967. Jim loved his family and his country. He enlisted on July 6, 1967, with the United States Army, where he eventually made the rank of Sargent. Jim served in Vietnam with the 716th Military Police Battalion. He and his company defended many key positions during the Tet Offensive. While in the Army, Jim contributed greatly to many charitable works. Jim eventually left the army only to serve in the Maine Guard. He was a proud member of the 262nd Engineer Company and later the 1136th Transport Co. in Bangor. Jim left the service honorably and well decorated in 1997.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth E. Cambridge; and three daughters, Johnnie Perry and her partner, David Malia from New York, Christina L. Cambridge and her partner, Cris Peck from Vermont, and Danielle R. Cambridge of Old Town. Jim was blessed with a granddaughter, Estelle; and a grandson, Ethan. Additional loved ones Jim leaves behind are his sister-in-law, and her husband, Al and Helen Henderson of Old Town, his special friend, Marlene Lozier from Hermon and Jim's favorite nieces and nephews, Robin and Jonathan Sandau of Hermon and Jennie and David Bischoff of Corinth.

Jim was predeceased by his parents, Edgar and Anna (Morris) Cambridge; and his sister, Nancy Lamson.

A service and celebration of life will be held in the United Baptist Church at 86 Middle St. in Old Town on Friday, January 5th at 11 am, with Pastor Bruce Stevens, officiating. There will be a spring interment announced at a later date.
