Kentville, Nova Scotia - Barbara Ann Payne, age 86, of Kentville, formerly of Old Town, Maine, passed away on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at home, surrounded by her children. Born on May 2, 1932 in Old Town, Maine, she was the only daughter of Earl and Lucy (Leavitt) Sucy.
Educated in Old Town schools, Barbara attended the University of Maine and Beal Business School in Bangor, Maine. Barbara worked as a legal secretary and as a stenographer for the federal government in Bangor. She married Frederick J. Payne in 1954 and subsequently lived in Syracuse, New York; Old Town, Maine; Coudersport, Pennsylvania; Morrisville, Vermont and Bradley, Maine before moving to Kentville. She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Kentville.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Fred; two brothers, James and Sharland. She is survived by her four children, daughter, Jody, Brockton, Massachusetts; sons, David (Janet); Kentville; Stephen (Linda), Scarborough, Maine; Daniel (Susan), Brisbane, Australia; six grandsons, Jeffrey, Eric, Cody, Colton, Ethan and Isaac and great-granddaughters, Lucy, Georgina and Julia; and brother, Michael, Old Town, Maine.
There will be no visitation, by request. The funeral service, followed by a reception, will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 19, 2018, in St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Kentville, Father John MacPherson officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Old Town, Maine. Donations in memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.
