She married Brian Carr in 1971 and moved to Colrain, MA in 1977. Her community meant a lot to her and the love for people and neighbors was evident at community pot luck suppers and picnics. Cooking was one of her greatest talents and she loved to share recipes being especially proud of her Norwegian heritage. She would welcome anybody to come in, pull up a chair for a coffee or a meal. Waitressing at the Mohawk Park gave her the opportunity to meet and greet new faces, which she loved.
Barb gave back to the community by becoming an EMT in 1982 for Colrain Ambulance Association. She was also employed at Phoenix Insurance Company as a medical claims adjuster. When her spouse Brian became ill, her desire to know more medical knowledge was her inspiration for becoming an EMT and Brian’s advocate. Brian passed away in 2000.
Barb moved to Maine in 1989 and enjoyed living off the grid in Grand Falls Plantation. Her privacy was important to her and the small community, meeting her elderly friend, Allegra, as well as Bill and Marge, Juanita, Joe and Veteran Richard Libby.
She moved to Enfield to Sherman Heights to grow and develop relationships with the neighbors.
Barb is survived by her son, Ted Carr of Central, NY; daughter, Inga Carr; grandchildren, Zachary, Wyatt, Gabriel, Brianna and Brady Carr, all of the greater Bangor area.
A celebration of life will be announced in the Spring.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Barbara’s name can be made to Penobscot Valley Humane Society, P.O. Box 73, Lincoln, ME 04457
