John P. Roy (Jack), 86, of Westbrook died peacefully, surrounded by his family on January 13. He was the youngest of four boys born to Albert and Ellen Dwyer Roy, on July 18, 1936. He grew up in West Hartford, CT, and graduated from Hall High School in 1954.
Jack attended Syracuse University (ROTC) and was a proud member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. He graduated in 1958, a Distinguished Military Graduate and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the U.S Army. Upon graduation Jack began active duty under the direct command of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He was responsible for the transmission and security of classified material. In 1960, he was Honorably Discharged with the rank of First Lieutenant. Jack then went on to enjoy a successful career with Southern New England Telephone Co. for over 30 years.
In 1960, Jack married the love of his life, Anne (Corrette) Roy. Together they raised four children, first living in Clinton, CT then settling in the home they built in Westbrook, CT. A dedicated communicant of St. Mark the Evangelist Rc Church, he raised his family with his same, unwavering sense of faith.
Jack was a diehard fan of Syracuse football and basketball. He rooted for his Orangemen until the end! “Go, ‘Cuse!” Like his father, Jack loved the outdoors. He thoroughly enjoyed mowing his lawn and perfecting his gardens. His most treasured times, were those spent with his family, especially taking beach walks with Anne.
Jack is survived by his wife of 61 years, Anne, four children, Susan Mosca (Eddie) of Deep River, Glenn Roy of Westbrook, Kara Shatz (Mike Fusco) of Florida, Amy Roy (Luke DiStefano) of Old Saybrook, seven cherished grandchildren, Lauren Mosca, James Mosca, Emily Mosca, Devyn King, Matthew King, Sam Shatz, Liv Shatz, special sister-in-law, Janet Corrette of Bloomfield, CT, and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Jack was predeceased by his brothers A. Richard Roy of Hamden, CT, The Honorable William R. Roy of Syracuse, NY, and Thomas F. Roy of Simsbury, CT.
Calling hours will be Friday January 20th from 10-11 AM at St. Mark Parish Hall followed by
A Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM in St Mark Church, 222 McVeagh Rd. Westbrook, CT.
Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Westbrook.
