Ellen A. Fredericks

Ellen (Bohne) Fredericks, 68, of Old Saybrook, passed away on January 13, 2024 surrounded by her daughters and family. Ellen was born on February 1, 1955 in New Haven, CT and was the daughter of the late Edward and Janet Bohne. She was married to the late Thomas Fredericks for 43 years. She is survived by her daughters Leah Sousa (husband Peter) of Hope Valley, RI, Kristin Bartunek (husband Steve) of Middlefield, CT and grandchildren; William Sousa, Avery Bartunek, Dylan Sousa, and Casey Bartunek. She is also survived by her sister Karen Wilson (husband John), brother William Bohne (wife Linda) and sister Jane Huelsman (husband Robert) of Wallingford, CT along with many loving nieces and nephews and wonderful friends from Westbrook, CT. A special thanks to Khosi, Ellen’s caregiver for her wonderful care and friendship.

Ellen met Tom in high school running track and were the perfect example of “high school sweethearts.” Ellen graduated from Lyman Hall H.S. in 1973 and went on to become a radiology technician.

Ellen was a volunteer for the Red Cross. She traveled with them to help with the aftermath of hurricane Katrina. Ellen loved organizing game nights for family and friends. The Amazing Race wasn't just something to watch on Sunday nights. It was a shared dinner with dear friends who fondly referred to themselves as “The Six Pack”. They would take turns making up their own live versions, there were lots of fun stories. Ellen loved the family ski trips and cruises. She was an avid tennis player. She loved a good book, especially at the beach, along with a great sun hat! Ellen will be remembered for her strength and grace through her health battle, for her kind, caring ways and for all those generous hugs she gave.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 26, 2024 from 4:00pm until 7:00pm at Swan Funeral Home, located at 1224 Boston Post Rd, Old Saybrook, CT. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the curePSP at psp.org.
