2024. Born on September 8, 1964, in New London, CT, to Lynn and
Charles Smith, Tom lived a life filled with diverse interests and a kind,
gentle spirit.
As a scout he began his love of camping and the outdoors, which helped
him get a job at scout camp during the summers. His other jobs as
dishwasher and prep cook fueled his interest in cooking and cuisine. After
graduating from Old Lyme High School in 1982, he followed his passion for
graphic design, leading him to a 25 year career with Standard Register. In
1985, he welcomed his son, Patrick.
Tom's job and adventurous spirit took him to Boston, where he immersed
himself in the city's unique culture, becoming an avid fan of the Boston Red
Sox and New England Patriots. While in Boston he was blessed with two
more sons, Morgan and Greyson.
Eventually, Tom returned to his roots in Old Lyme, CT where he found
solace in his love for his children, reading, cooking shows, car racing,
gaming, and tinkering with computers. Tom's remarkable memory for
minute details in books, movies, and stories made him a wealth of
fascinating trivia and weird facts.
Tom's kind and gentle spirit, coupled with his easy laugh and ability to fix
almost anything, endeared him to those around him. He will also be
remembered for his mouth watering meatloaf recipe.
Tom is survived by his father, Charles; his brothers, Charles Jr. and wife
Carolyn, Timothy and wife Kimberley; his three sons, Patrick, Morgan, and
Greyson; his Aunt Laura and husband Rick; and his many nieces,
nephews, and extended family members.
A private graveside interment will be held on June 8th for the family.
