Peggy was predeceased by her husband and sweetheart, James D. Jones, Sr.; her daughter, Suzette (King) Pellicer; her stepdaughter, Kathleen (Jones) Milko; and many friends. She is survived by her daughter, Vicki Jean King Fontneau (Killingworth, CT); her son, Herschel C. King, Jr (Bunnell, FL).; stepson, James D. Jones, Jr. (York, ME); stepdaughter, Sharon (Jones) Briggs (Coventry, RI); 13 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and countless friends.
Peggy was born on October 28, 1930 to Alice Knight and Leland Jones, in Deland, FL, and grew up on her grandparents’ (Salome and Walter “Eugene” Knight’s) farm in Haw Creek, FL during the Great Depression and World War II. At the farm, she learned to make cane syrup from the sugar cane crop, to churn butter, to shear sheep, can fruits and ride horses. At school, she was a diver on the swim team and a drum majorette.
Peggy and her husband Jim started what became a very successful home stenciling business, which they later sold to enjoy the finer things in life. After their retirement, Peggy spent her time with family and friends, traveling abroad with Jim, and she became an accomplished watercolors painter.
She will be dearly missed, but she is surely dancing in Heaven in her red dress, reunited with her sweetheart, Jim.
Private graveside services will be provided by Fulton-Theroux and held at Winthrop Cemetery in Deep River, CT on January 15, 2024 at 1:00 pm.
Donations in her honor may be made to one of her favorite charities, Care and Share of East Lyme www.careandshareofel.org.
