Mrs. Nelson was born in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of Frank and Florence Jacob Gilbride. She married Paul H. Nelson in Manhassett, NY.
A graduate of Marymount College, Mrs. Nelson also studied for many years at the New York Botanical Garden. She was dedicated to horticulture as an active member of the Herb Society of America, the Hearty Plant Society and the Duck River Garden Club. Additionally, she was a ten-year veteran of the famous Garden Gang at the Florence Griswold Museum. She felt passionately that a great garden is a process and not a product.
Mrs. Nelson was a longtime volunteer at the Old Lyme Congregational Church White Elephant Sale.
Prior to living on the Shoreline, Mrs. Nelson was a twenty-five year resident of Darien, CT, where she brought up her children and was a part-owner of The Harrel Shop, a fine gift store.
Her husband Paul, her sons Paul F. Nelson and Andrew H. Nelson, her two daughters Regina D. Wilcox and Laura E. Kremens and eight cherished grandchildren survive Mrs. Nelson.
