Adie was born and raised in North Nashville known as Kalb Hollow to the locals. As a young man he was a talented baseball player and champion boxer earning various Golden Gloves Southern Championships.
He worked as a Nashville truck driver for most of his adult life and retired from Mason-Dixon Truck Lines in 1985.
In his later years Adie was especially known as a comedian. He always had jokes and stories to lighten and brighten any room he entered.
He literally grew up in poverty on the streets of Nashville. This challenging upbringing certainly fashioned his compassion and willingness to serve others. He loved playing Santa Clause for senior citizens and children. For most of his life, he worked hard so that as many Nashville children as possible had toys for Christmas and food for the family.
He was an active member in the Kalb Hollow Birthday Club which met monthly to reminisce about old times in North Nashville and raise money for the Kalb Hollow Christmas Fund which served the children of Nashville.
Anyone who knew Adie knows he loved his family. His wife Peggy, 3 children, and numerous grandchildren, and great grandchildren, were in his words “his life”. He never missed a ballgame, school play, graduation, or any event in which his family participated. Family meals and gatherings were his favorite pastimes. Oh how he loved his family!!
And Adie possessed a simple yet deep faith in God. A day never closed unless he concluded it in prayer. He knew his sins were forgiven in Jesus and his eternal home awaited in heaven. Upon hearing of Adie’s passing, his long time pastor friend Rob Morgan of The Donelson Fellowship sent this text message to the family:
I'm so sorry. He was a strong spirit who raised good children, loved a wonderful wife, cared for his friends with rare commitment, and kept his home bright. He was an uncommon saint in his own mold. He was proud of you, as you are of him.
Adie leaves behind not only his family, but scores of friends too numerous to count! He never met a stranger and made friends quickly. His laughter, friendship, and contagious spirit will be missed. He was an “uncommon saint” indeed. Yet we have the hope of a glorious reunion in Jesus!
In addition to floral tributes, Memorial Contributions may be made in Adie's honor to Kalb Hollow Christmas Party, c/o Charlie Bammon, 615-642-2444.
