Gene was well-known for his love of Christ and his unmatched voice. He spent over six decades singing the praises of his Savior all over the country. His first introduction to singing was with his Mom (Ma), Dad (Pa), and siblings Kathy, Judson, and Julie. Soon after, he began singing Southern Gospel Music with various quartets and trios. Some of them included "The Followers", "The Chapel Keys" (with his dear friend, Steve Deets), "The Crownsmen", "Spiritbound", "Mercy Road", "Hovie Lister and the Statesmen Quartet", and as an Itinerate Song Evangelist in the Church of the Nazarene. He found profound joy, though, singing with his dear friends, Jerry Candler and Tommy Howe, as a third of the trio, "Miller, Candler & Howe".
Gene passed his love of music to his children and they have also experienced the joy of singing the Word in music. He touched so many throughout his life; and through his witness, many came to a saving relationship with Christ. We are thankful for his example and take joy that he now sees his Savior face to face, but will miss him until the day God also calls us home. "Until then, our hearts will go on singing!"
