Robert “Bob” Gholson, formerly of Granbury, Texas passed away December 6 in Lebanon, Tennessee. He was born in Hobbs, New Mexico to Lyle and Lorette (Humphreys) Gholson on August 26, 1933. He graduated from Hobbs High School in 1951 and was employed by Continental Airlines forty two years. He began his career in Hobbs in 1951. His career took him to El Paso and Albuquerque, where retired in 1995.
He married Nola Largent November 7, 1952. Together, they had 2 sons.
He served in the U.S Army from 1952-1955 with an anti aircraft unit in Ft. Belvior, VA, which was integrated into the 1st NIKE Missile Battalion. Their primary responsibility and mission was to protect President Eisenhower and the White House; because of this, he was designated a Korean War Veteran.
He loved his Lord, his family, country, trout fishing and enjoyed 65 years of hunting in the Capitan Mountains of New Mexico. He was a Boy Scout leader and coached boy’s football and baseball leagues. He always met the needs of family, friends and even strangers on occasion.
He and Nola retired to Granbury, Texas and where they restored antiques and catered for local auctions.
Preceding him in death were his wife of 52 years, Nola, his parents and his brother, Jerry.
Surviving are 3 sons, Danny (Mary) Gholson of Fruita, CO, Larry (Trina) Gholson of Lebanon, TN, and Rick (Sandra) Teran of Katie, TX, 5 grandchildren, 2 great granddaughters, his brother, Neil, his sister Susie Rice, and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be announced at a later date.
