Hilda Jo Kirby was born on November 19,1930 at Defeated, Tennessee, the only child of Mittie and Carl Kirby. In August of 1950 she met Jack Thomas whom she married just 3 short months later on November 11th, eight days shy of her 20th birthday. They made their home in the Donelson area of Nashville where they raised their three children, Suzanne, Jack Jr. and Kathy. Suzanne Thomas, Jack and his wife Cindy Thomas,
Kathy and her husband Jerry Sawyer all currently reside in Donelson.
Hilda and Jack were long-time members of the Lebanon Road Church of Christ where they served and worshipped faithfully.
Hilda loved being a homemaker, cooking, crocheting and entertaining. Most of all she loved her family. Belovedly known as Nana to her 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild (and called the same by most who knew her), she was the personification of unconditional love.
On August 19th of this year she lost her life-long love of 64 years. Hilda passed away just 64 days later on October 22, 2015 following complications from surgery although most of those closest to her believe her greatest complication was her broken heart. She will be missed profoundly by all of her family and everyone who had the privilege of calling her their friend.
A funeral service will be conducted 3pm Sunday, October 25, 2015 at the Hermitage Funeral Home with Bro. Jerry Sawyer officiating. Burial will follow in the Hermitage Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be Saturday from 4pm until 7pm and from 1pm until 3pm on Sunday at the funeral home.
