Herman Edwin Norfleet Donelson, TN Age 91, went home to be with our Lord on April 26, 2015. Herman was born in Montgomery County, Woodlawn, Tennessee on May 16, 1923 to the late Lennious Perkins Norfleet and Adella Irene Weakley Norfleet.Herman proudly served his country in World War II (1942-1945) as a 2nd Class Gunners Mate aboard the USS Dewey in the South Pacific. He was aboard The USS Dewey during the great typhoon of 1944 in the Philippine Sea when The Dewey survived a 75-degree roll. The US lost three destroyers and 790 officers and men in that typhoon. Herman also was proud to serve in the Korean War (1950-1951)Survivors include his loving wife, Edcois Cates Norfleet; children: Anthoinette Norfleet Campbell (Bob), Stanton Edwin Norfleet (Ann), Paulette Norfleet Wassel (Paul, deceased), Elizabeth Irene Norfleet Waldrop (Mike); grandchildren: Nick Norfleet, Peter Campbell (Laura), Tracy Campbell Pollock (Mark), Alex Wassel, Jennifer Scott (Mitchell), Brandon Seiber, Jessica Cunningham (Casey), Ashley Seiber; great-grandchildren: Jackson Campbell, Kayden Cunningham, Landon Bilyeu, Jase Cunnigham, Lillian Scott.The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Pennington United Methodist Church, 2745 Pennington Bend Road, Nashville, TN 37214 where a celebration of Herman's life will be conducted on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at 10 a.m., with an hour visitation prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Hermitage Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens.In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Pennington United Methodist Church or American Cancer Society in loving memory of Herman E. Norfleet.
