Grady B Powell, 95 of Mt. Juliet, TN passed away Monday at his home. He was born July 7, 1928 in Nunnelly, TN to Clinton and Roxie Powell. Grady spent his childhood in Nunnelly before moving to Nashville as a teenager. Grady started his career at AVCO Aviation but soon after joined the United States Army where he served honorably for 2 years during the Korean Conflict and 8 years in the Army Reserves. He returned to AVCO Aviation following his service and retired in 1989 after 40 plus years.
Grady met and married Katherine Lackey and together they were married for over 73 years. They raised four children and participated in their lives growing up. Grady enjoyed woodworking and tinkering with small engines. He spent many enjoyable hours watching his favorite sport teams, the Atlanta Braves, Tennessee Titan, Vanderbilt sports but also Kentucky basketball. In his later years he was an avid bowler and participated in leagues both in Hermitage and Lebanon. He enjoyed gardening but mostly spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Grady was preceded in death by his parents, Clinton and Roxie Powell and 7 brothers and sister. He is survived by his daughter, Susan Clark, sons, David (Sharon) Powell, Mark (Valerie) Powell, and Paul (Joanna Harris) Powell, sister Mary Walker and a half sister Dean Baker, Grandchildren; Chad, Jonathan, Kelsey, Brittany, Zachary, Caitlin and 10 great grandchildren.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Friday November 10, 2023 from 12:00PM until time of service at 2:00PM at the Hermitage Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 535 Shute Lane Old Hickory, TN 37138. Interment to follow in the Hermitage Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers , contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
