Dorothy "Dot" Gray Smith

Dorothy Gray Smith, age 82, of Old Hickory, TN passed peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, November 7, 2023. Dorothy was born in Lebanon, Tennessee on August 7, 1941, to her parents James Thomas Gray Sr & Helen Boles Gray who preceded her in death.

Dot married her high school sweetheart and was a loving wife to Larry for 65 wonderful years. She was a beloved mother and mother-in-law to Pam (Kelli), Robert (Crystal), Dwayne (Gretta) and Machelle (John). She was grandma to 17 grandkids, 22 great grandkids and 2 great great grandkids who all believed she hung the moon. She is also survived by her sister Sandra Etheridge and sister and brother-in-law Sharon and Charles Johnson, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Dot is preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law Tommy and Betsy Gray and brother-in-law Kenneth Etheridge.

Dot and Larry ran the Old Hickory Community Center for 35 years playing an integral part in the upbringing of a village. She was a mother figure to so many and always had room in her home for whoever needed a place to stay. After retirement Dot & Larry opened Phoenix Flea Market where they could be found sifting through bargains. She enjoyed time with her family, watching the Braves and game shows and she loved to read and always had a book at her side. Dot was a wonderful woman who will be dearly missed by her family, friends and all that had an opportunity to know her.

A visitation for Dorothy will be held Thursday, November 9, 2023, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Hermitage Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens, 535 Shute Lane, Old Hickory, TN and on Friday, November 10, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, with her Celebration of Life service in the chapel at Hermitage Funeral Home at 11:00 am with burial following in Hermitage Memorial Gardens.
