It has been almost a year now since we lost you dad and my heart is still broken. You were the one who helped me learn how to tie my shoes, spent an entire evening chasing me up and down St. Paul Drive until I learned how to ride my bike with no training wheels. You went into work a little late for four years to drive me to school because you and mom wanted me to have a good education. You were so hard on me and sometimes I did not think it was fair, but now that I am an adult I understand why you pushed me so hard- because you believed in me and you knew I could do anything if I set my mind to it. Your hard work and determination are two strengths I got from you. I just never got to tell you "thank you" for those things. You did what you felt like you had to do for our family.
I miss you everyday and I think about you everyday, dad. I miss seeing your pickup truck in the driveway and your boat in the garage. I always leave your seat on the recliner open, anticipating that you're going to walk through the door and sit down, but you don't because you are gone from us now. 
I will hold the memories of us in my heart until I see you again someday.

I am sorry good friend, i just found out of your passing today. As for most in the community this will be difficult to accept. I will miss our short talks and good haircuts.

I used to live up the street from Chuck and his family some 35 years ago.  We would share fishing and UT stories every time I got my hair cut. He was always in a good mood and always had a way of encouraging people.  He was a good friend and cut my hair for 35 years or so.  May God bless the family in this time of loss.  His memory will live a long time with me.

I am deeply saddened by the news I got just today. I considered Chuck not only the best barber in the area but a true longtime friend. Chuck began cutting my hair in 1970 and we had the best conversations everytime I visited but it Tennessee anything ( but football was tops ) or growing tomatoes. Chuck always greeted you with a smile and ALWAYS by name.Donelson will surely miss him as I do.

  To most of you he was simply known as Chuck. Most never even knew his last name. I simply known him as Dad. Back in his hometown of Pikeville, TN, he was simply known as Henry. Dad got his work ethic from his parents. In his early years, dad grew up on a farm, his father teaching him how to work a long day. Dad had one sister, who he loved very much. Dad after graduating high school, left for electronics school in Louisville, which i find very ironic, considering dad never used a computer, had a cell phone, or never had HD tv in his home. I do not know how he got into barbering, but he came to Nashville to go to barber college. It is through this time, when dad met my mom. His first day in 1970, back at Merry Oaks, the other barbers had to take him to buy a pair of socks. My dad really struggled at first. When i was born back in 1971, him an mom barely had any furniture in their apartment. Dad spent many, many long hours trying to make ends meeting his early years, which as many of you already know, he still did. Dad has always opened 2 hours early. I have seen him not come home until 7 at night. 
    Many do not know that the old theatre building that he spent the majority of his career in, me, mom, an later my sister, would clean the other offices in it, and we also took care of the outside as well. Dad's typical day was 10 to 12 hours in the shop, come home to eat, spend a few hours in his garden during gardening season, then we got in his old truck an go clean the building, on weekends we did the outside.
    Dad loved his job, loved his customers. I have went to Retirement Homes, Hospitals, people's houses for his handicapped or sick customers, even funeral homes for one of his customers final haircuts. That was just the norm for dad. As a child growing up, we had season tickets to Tennessee football. Dad would work half day on saturday before we could head to Knoxville.
   As a teenager, an young adult, i did not always agree with my dad's work ethic. As i get older, i see my dad in myself. My dad would hardly ever verbally express his feelings, his emotions, but dad loved his wife and his two children, and one grandchild. Dad provided for us the only way he knew how, work. Dad's recreations, as many of you already know, was fishing. Sunday an Monday mornings at seven points on percy priest lake. Dad loved his garden, loved tomatoes the best. Dad loved anything UT. Dad was a season ticket holder of the Tennessee Titans for many years.
    Simply put, my dad was the hardest working man i have ever met. Dad always had a dream of me becoming a barber, and one day taking over his business. One time i told him i could never replace him, i could never fill his shoes. Dad gave his heart an soul to his customers.
   In ending, if my dad had two last words to tell everyone of the former barbers he had the pleasure of working with, and his many customers of 44 years of barbering, it would be Thank You.  As his son, if i had one last sentence to tell my dad, it would be, job well done, am proud an thankful for what you taught me to be, an i love you dad.

I LOST NOT ONLY A GREAT BARBER, BUT A GREAT FRIEND WITH CHUCKS PASSING. MY HEARTFELT CONDOLENCES GO OUT TO JOYCE AND HER WHOLE FAMILY DURING THIS ESPECIALLY HARD TIME. I WILL MISS CHUCK DEARLY AND WISH ALL OF GODS BLESSING ON JOYCE AND HER FAMILY. MAY HIS SOUL REST IN PEACE.  LENNY LENZ

I am sorry for the loss of Chuck. He was a great man that I enjoyed talking to. He always was in good spirits and had the most interesting lifelong stories to tell. Chuck had been cutting my hair since 2000 when I graduated from the police academy. My family's prayers are with you and your family Mrs. Scott.

Chuck gave both my Son's their first haircut. He was my Barber for the past 15 years. R. I P. Chuck.

Chuck gave me my first cut at age 3. I'll be 45 next month. He was the biggest Tennessee fan ever. He cut my dads hair for years as well. One of the nicest people I ever met. Had the greatest since of humor too. He will be missed for sure

The good thing about Chuck, he was always Chuck. He was a comforting word to me when I was dealing with throat cancer and always had a way to make to laugh and for a short while forget about your troubles.  You always felt better after a haircut from Chuck.  I will miss him.  Goodbye my friend, God Bless and please watch over us.

I will miss Chuck tremendously... one of the best guys ever..aside from cutting my hair for many years and delivering Cokes to him on the late 80's....even when I started shaving my head he treated me the same....would always drop in for the BS...miss u big guy..thanks for being a friend....I'm a better person for knowing you.

Thirty years ago,my uncle Woodrow Wallace said he had a new barber that could cut a flat top better than he could and he wanted the new barber to cut my hair.Chuck has been cutting my hair for all these years,I maved from Donelson several years ago but still drove for Chuck to cut my hair and talk.He was a good friend all these years and my prayers are for the family and their great loss.

Joyce, I am deeply sadden for your loss.  My son Daniel and I have been coming to see Chuck for the past 15 years and we will miss talking with him about Tennessee sports and life in general.  He always had a smile and a handshake.  He was a true and genuine man and the world would be a better place if all men were like Chuck. To all the Scott Family. Chuck has cut my hair for only the past year. We made friends fast, he was a professional at his job. We always talked about politicks or gardening. We saw eye to eye on most everything. I will miss his voice behind my head. I am so very sorry for your loss.

Chuck cut my hair, every two weeks, for the last ten years. He also cut my Father-in-Law's (Alf McGinness) hair for over 30 years. Going to see Chuck at the Barber Shop was more than a hair cut, it was a refill of "feel good". Chuck is a reminder of an era this world will never see again. I am deeply saddened by the news of Chuck's passing. My prayers go out to Joyce and all of the Scott family. He will be greatly missed.

Chuck was my barber for the last couple of years and he became a good friend. I looked forward to going to see him every 2-3 weeks. It was impossible to leave Chuck's chair in a bad mood! So sorry for your loss, he will truly be missed by many.

I have been getting my haircut by Chuck for 12 years. But you got more than a haircut when you came to this barber shop. What a great human being! I am originally from Alabama yet he treated me like we grew up together. I will miss Chuck! I am sorry for your loss!

Chuck has cut my hair every month for 12 years.Yesterday was time for me to go,I noticed Chucks red truck was not there.I thought maybe he had truck problems.When I reached the door I learned of his passing.I am shocked and so sad for his loss. He and I talked about our families and our problems on a regular basis.I have not only lost a barber but a true friend and confidant.May God Bless your family.
