Growing up she was active in multiple organizations, including 4-H where she would show livestock and participate in agricultural activities. In 1968 Susan was even crowned the Boone County 4-H Queen. She also took part in Aksarben and the Nebraska State Fair, showing cattle.
Susan married Cecil Harold Reeder on January 3, 1976 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Albion Nebraska.
She studied at the University of Nebraska and Mid-Plains College, where she obtained her nursing LPN certificate and began working as a surgical nurse at Olathe Medical Center and Humana Hospital. She also spent time teaching the next wave of medical professionals as a Surgical Technology Clinical Coordinator for Sanford Brown College.
She was energetically involved in her community, but particularly with her church and Red Hat Ladies organization. With the church, Abundant Life AoG, she helped to keep the food pantry stocked, put together Easter Egg Hunts for kids, taught Sunday School, and so much more. Susan had a loving and charitable heart, donating monetarily when she couldn’t actively do something.
She was preceded in death by her husband Cecil Reeder, her parents Gladys Lucille Jensen and Eugene Jensen, and sisters-in-law Nancy Jensen and Dee Reeder.
She is survived by her sons Phillip Reeder (with his wife Angela) and Daniel Reeder, and granddaughter Cecelia Reeder, her brothers Mark Jensen (with his children Andy, Zach, and Maggie) and Ted Jensen, and sister Sonja Jensen. Also her sibling-in-laws Bruce Reeder, Sharon Reeder, Jim Reeder (with his wife Jean and son Brett), and Lloyd Reeder (with children Jeff, Jodi, Mark, and Mike)
The family would like to thank the staff at Olathe Medical Center and Good Samaritan Society for the care and compassion they showed our loved one in her final days. Also our church family from Abundant Life Assembly of God in Overland Park and her tight knit group of “Red Hat Ladies”. The love, compassion, and friendship they showed will forever be remembered by us.
Services will be taking place on Monday, July 1st 2024. Visitation will be at 10am at McGilley-Frye Funeral Home (105 Loula Street, Olathe) with the service happening around 11am and the interment to follow at Olathe Memorial Cemetery (738 N Chestnut, Olathe). Family and friends are invited to attend a light luncheon at Abundant Life Assembly of God (12400 Antioch, Overland Park, KS) following the interment at Olathe Memorial Cemetery.
