Melvin Ray Dell

Melvin Ray Dell, 87, of Olathe, Kansas passed away surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, September 15, 2022. He will forever be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, great uncle, and friend.

Melvin was born on April 3, 1935, in Foster, MO to Laurence Lewis Dell and Almeda Velma. He graduated from Paola High School in 1952.

He was united in marriage to Shirley Jean Mustain in June of 1956. The marriage later ended in divorce. In April of 1973, Melvin married Delores Jean Mooney and moved to the city of Olathe where he joined the First Christian Church on March 30, 1975. He worked for the United States Postal Service for 35 years in Olathe, Kansas where he retired. He was very active in his church, serving as Elder and Deacon. Melvin along with his joking personality and stories will be sadly missed.

Melvin is preceded in death by his parents: Laurence Lewis Dell and Almeda Dell; wife of forty-six years, Delores Jean Dell; grandson, Jeremy Clinton; great-granddaughter, Layla Tacy; son David Dell; step-sons: Rick Clinton and John Clinton; brother, Lary Dell; sister-in-law, Shirley Dell.

He is survived by his daughter, Robin Dell-Johnson; step-daughter, Lori Clinton; and step-son, Rod Clinton and his wife Pam. Also left behind to cherish his memory are his thirteen grandchildren: Shelly Clinton of Parker, KS, Jeanne Clinton of Drexel, MO, Derick Clinton of Osawatomie, KS, Paige Walters of Parker, KS, Crystal Koelsch of Paola, KS, Joey Clinton of Freeport, FL, Christopher “CJ” Clinton of Olathe, KS, Tiffany Card of New Braunfel, TX, Cody Finch of Abilene, TX, David Dell Jr. of Paola, KS, Debbi Beck of Paola, KS, Autumn Dell of Abilene, TX, and Dustin Dell of Abilene, TX; nineteen great-grandchildren: Sheremie Kaiser of Parker, KS, Melody Eastwood, River Tacy, Janie “JJ’ Ward all of Drexel, MO, Stormy Walters, Clinton Walters all of Parker, KS, Kayleigh Koelsch, Aby Koelsch, Bailey Koelsch, Sofia Koelsch all of Paola, KS, Daxton Clinton, Brexleigh Clinton all of Freeport, FL, Aviana Clinton, Emmerson Clinton all of Olathe, KS, Jasmine Card of Abilene, TX, Dalton Howard of Paola, KS, Brooklyn Roberts of Paola, KS, Dillion Roberts of Paola, KS, and Julian Leo Finch of Abilene, TX; Melvin is also survived by his niece, Chelle Decker of Topeka, KS; nephews: Robert Dell of Topeka, KS, and Richard Dell of Olathe, KS; great nephews: Luke Dell and Theodore Decker; and great-niece Lacey Dell all of Topeka, KS.

Visitation 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 19, 2022 at the McGilley & Frye Funeral Home, 105 East Loula Street Olathe, Kansas. Graveside Service will follow at 2:30 p.m. Monday, September 19, 2022 at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, 13901 South Black Bob Road Olathe, Kansas.
