Edna Wayne “E.W.” Rose, 86, passed away peacefully at her home Tuesday, September 11, 2012. She was born March 19, 1926 in Olathe, KS the beloved daughter of Frank and Maude (Greer) Lamb. E.W. was a lifelong resident of Olathe and graduated from Olathe High School in 1944 as class Valedictorian. She attended the University of Kansas and was an accomplished musician in the University Marching Band.
On September 19, 1945, E.W. was united in marriage with her high school sweetheart, Ned Rose, upon his return from World War II. She wrote a love letter to Ned every day during the three years they were separated by war. They celebrated 62 years of marriage until Ned’s passing in January, 2008.
E.W. was a talented decorator who enjoyed entertaining family and friends in the many homes she and Ned built and lived in over the years. Her creativity is reflected also in the treasured photo albums, scrapbooks and quilts she lovingly made for her family and friends.
E.W. adored her three children, M. Douglas Rose and wife Susan of Scottsdale, AZ, Shelley Rose Ferland and husband Rick of Evergreen, CO and Morgan Rose and wife Lori of Mission Hills, KS. She was the proud grandmother of Natalie Rose Schwartz (Jeff), Brienne Rose, Chase Rose, Wyatt Rose, Logan Rose, Evan Rose and great grandmother of Sloane Schwartz. E.W. is also survived by her brother, Bob Lamb and wife Daisy of Olathe, KS.
E.W. became a resident of Brighton Gardens in Prairie Village, KS in 2008. The family wishes to recognize her wonderful team of caregivers for their devotion, compassion and care over the past four years. We also express our sincere appreciation for the assistance and comfort provided by Odyssey Hospice.
E.W. will be laid to rest with her husband in Arlington National Cemetery. Per her wishes, no local services will be held.
