Walter Aaron La Grone, Of Oklahoma City, passed away February 24, 2021 at the age of 79. He was born in Deadwood, Texas on March 21, 1941 to Lurlene and Chesley La Grone. Walt graduated from Carthage High School and played football for Texas A&M (during that time, he was the smallest Guard in the Southwest Conference). He joined the Air Force, attending Navigator Training at James Connelly AFB, Waco Texas and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant on Friday 13th, December, 1963. He met Harriot Jeanfreau, a good Baylor Baptist, her second week of college, on a blind date September 22, 1963 and proposed to her on October 30, 1963. They were married July 25, 1964. And the 'rest is history'.
While in the Air Force the family was stationed at seven different states as well as Southeast Asia and retired from Tinker AFB, OK in 1984. During his Air Force career, he flew KC-135s in the Strategic Air Command and C-130s while in the Philippines.
With this much moving around, Walt eventually received his Bachelor's Degree from Ball State University and his Master's Degree from Louisiana Tech.
Retiring from the Air Force after 22 years, he worked for Oklahoma Employment Security Commission from 1984-2000.
Walt is survived by his wife, Harriot, daughter Michelle, and son Marcus. As well as, 2 grandsons, Maximilian and Mycroft. He is also survived by 2 sisters, Mel Griffin and Annette Warren, and 1 brother, Curtis La Grone. He was preceded in death by 3 older siblings: Wetzel and Virgil La Grone and Letha Faye Kobbs.
His most favorite hobbies were painting and wood carving. He will be well remembered for carving literally 100s of "Comfort Birds" as well as very unique walking sticks and hiking staffs. And his other favorite hobby was still traveling around the world, until these last 2 years.
