Dr. Sylvia Mir was born January 17, 1951 in Corpus Christi, Texas. She obtained a bachelors degree from the University of Texas at Austin. She graduated medical school from the University of Texas Medical Branch. She went on to complete a residency in diagnostic radiology at the University of Oklahoma and was the first woman to complete a fellowship in interventional radiology at MD Anderson.
Following her fellowship, she started her career at Saint Anthony Hospital in 1983. She married Phillip Stratemeier, M.D. in April 1985. In the mid 90s she began focusing on breast imaging, eventually developing a breast imaging program and building a breast center at the hospital.
In her personal life she was a devoted wife and mother. While having a full-time career she also was president of the Casady Parents Organization. She loved spending time with her family, going on trips to Disney World and Hawaii. She was a voracious reader, especially mystery and crime novels, as well as an avid gardener. She was also dedicated to her grand-dogs. Above all else, her favorite way to spend her free time was with her husband and children. She will be remembered as a devoted wife and loving mother as well as an excellent physician.
Dr. Mir is preceded in death by her parents Ben and Mary Alice Mir. She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Phillip, and her two daughters Rachel and Natalie Stratemeier, all of Oklahoma City. She is also survived by her sister Frances Mir, as well as five nephews and two nieces.
A memorial service for Sylvia will be held Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at 10:30 AM at Christ the King Catholic Church, 8005 Dorset Dr, Nichols Hills, OK 73120.
