Sondra Elaine Locke, of Edmond, Oklahoma, passed away December 4, 2019. She was born in Oklahoma City on April 8, 1940 to Warren and Voicey Marie Matherly. Even though she was the second child of four children, she considered herself the middle child.
Sondra’s greatest achievements in life were becoming a mom and grandmother, because her kids were her world. She also worked in insurance claims for various insurance companies, until finally retiring from the Frates Insurance Company. She enjoyed traveling, gambling on horses and playing the slot machines at the casino. She belonged to a card group, made up of some of her closest friends and was known to be a very competitive card shark.
She was married in 1956 at Witcher Baptist Church to Bill Locke and went on to give birth to three boys, William Steven, Michael Dale, and Garry Lynn. Her greatest hardship was losing two of her sons; Steven died in 1978 and Michael died within the next two years.
Sondra was preceded in death by her parents, Warren and Voicey Marie Matherly; brother, Jerry Lynn Matherly; husband, Bill Locke; sons, William Steven and Michael Dale Locke.
She will forever be cherished by her son and daughter-in-law, Garry and Annette Locke, as well as grandchildren, Kaysee Locke Dake, Michael Sawyer and five great grandchildren, all of Adairsville, Georgia. She is also survived by her sisters, Myra Dorety and Karen Galloway, of Edmond, Oklahoma.
A graveside memorial service in Sondra’s memory will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 23, 2019 at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, 8701 NW Expressway, Oklahoma City.
