SAMMIE E LEE WOOD
NOVEMBER 13, 1939 – NOVEMBER 4, 2023
Sam L Wood was born on November 13, 1939 in Jones, Oklahoma to Earl Richard and Nora Inez (Abbott) Wood. Sam was number 7 of 8 children from this union. Sam passed through this life on November 4, 2023 just 9 days shy of his 84th birthday. He attended Luther schools through the 12th grade, from high school he worked as a house mover for a short time, then worked as a rigger in the oil field until he got hurt falling from an oil derrick, after his recovery he spent the next 17 years driving a truck for Safeway / Homeland stores until the Oklahoma City distribution center was sold to another company. Sam loved to build. He spent many years after his retirement from Safeway/Homeland building houses for his family and friends.
Sam married Beula Belle Higdon on May 21, 1960 in Jones, Oklahoma and remained a long time resident of Jones until the day he passed from this life. Sam and Beula created two children during their marriage: Karen Sue (Wood) Dykes, and Scott Eric Wood, then divorced in 1981. Just one year after moving into their newly built home. Sam then married Judith Miller in 1983, divorced in 1989. Sam remained single after his second marriage but still loved the ladies so you would see him with a different lady friend on many occasions. Sam did not cook for himself so you could always find him at Shuff’s, or the Rooster/Longhorn café in Jones, Dixie Diner in Nicoma Park or occasionally Golden Corral in Midwest City. Sam was a good friend, good brother and very good father/grandfather. Sam passed away peacefully in the home that he had completed in 1979.
Sam is preceded in death by his parents Earl & Nora Wood, 2 brothers Howard Wayne Wood of Jones, and Richard Dean Wood of Henessey, Oklahoma, 3 sisters Helen L Williams and Bettie Marie Wallace of Jones and Nora Earlene Ruane of Enid, Oklahoma.
