She attended Brinkman School until graduating in 1940. She received a Home Economics degree from Oklahoma A&M in Stillwater in 1945. She moved to Oklahoma City after graduation and worked for the Anna Maude Cafeteria where she met Marvin Petty, her future husband. They were married on January 24, 1948. They moved into an apartment across the street from Westminster Presbyterian Church where she was nearly a charter member.
She is predeceased by her parents, her husband Marvin, her brother and sister-in-laws Wallace and June Summers, Ed and Marlene Petty, Leo and Margie Petty, Lee and Zelma Buxton, Clarence Petty, her son Michael, and two nephews Dan Petty and Jim Buxton. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Dale and Cynthia Petty and many nieces and nephews and their children.
During her life she and Marvin traveled extensively seeing many sites throughout the world. They lived in Jakarta, Indonesia from December 1975 to October 1977 and traveled throughout Asia while there. She volunteered at Mobile Meals, the Spark program and the Urban Mission for many, many years. She also helped prepare meals at Westminster at various times.
A Celebration of Life for Ruby will be held at 1pm, Friday, July 14, at Westminster Presbyterian Church located on N. Shartel Ave in OKC.
