Robert was born on October 26, 1948, to Robert David and Ruby Bernice Swink in Hugo, OK. After graduating from Capitol Hill High School in Oklahoma City, OK, in 1967, Robert went to work at The Print Shop.
Robert worked alongside Mary Swink for 25+ years. In 1968, Robert met Mary Swink, and they wed in 1969 and were blessed with four children.
Robert was a kind-hearted, gentle soul that cared deeply for his family.
He had the gift to gab; therefore, he never met a stranger. Robert had many interests throughout his life. He enjoyed motorcycles, billiards, and a trip to the gun range. Robert was a lifelong fan of the Oklahoma Sooners. He relished collecting tools and working with his hands. Robert was passionate about spinning the legendary B.B. King vinyl. Blues music made for a great day for Robert. Family was always important to Robert, as he held his family close to his heart.
Anyone who knew Robert knew he was the most loving father, husband, brother, son, and friend a family could ask for.
Robert was predeceased by Robert David and Ruby Bernice Swink (parents), Robert Joseph and Hettie Lou (grandparents), Linda Swink (sister-in-law), and Lindsey Faller (brother-in-law).
Robert is survived by Mary Swink (mother of his children), Oklahoma; Travis (Kimm) Swink, Illinois; Trevor (Anu) Swink, Oklahoma; Derek (Annie) Swink, Florida; and Robin (Patrick) Mitchell, Oklahoma. Also cherishing his memory, Robert’s siblings, Richard Swink, and Wanda Faller. Robert loved his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles, extended family, and friends. Our father and friend will be greatly missed. He inspired many, and his soul will live in our hearts forever.
“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” - Revelation 21:4
Going Home
I just wanted to let you know that I made it home.
The journey wasn’t an easy one, but it didn’t take too long.
Everything is so pretty here, so white, so fresh and new.
I wish that you all could close your eyes and that you could see it too.
Please try not to be sad for me. Try to understand…
God is taking care of me… I’m in the shelter of His hands.
Here there is no sadness, no sorrow, and no pain.
Here there is no crying and I’ll never hurt again.
Here it is so peaceful when all the angels sing.
I really have to go for now… I’ve just got to try my wings.
Oh, please don’t feel guilty, it was just my time to go.
I see you are still feeling sad, and the tears just seem to flow.
We all come to earth for our lifetime, and for some, it’s not so many years.
I don’t want you to keep crying, you are shedding so many tears.
I haven’t really left you, even though it may seem so.
I have just gone to my heavenly home, and I’m closer to you than you know.
Just believe that when you say my name, I’m standing next to you,
I know you long to see me, but there’s nothing I can do.
But I’ll still send you messages and hope you understand,
That when your time comes to “cross over,”
I’ll be there to take your hand.
Love you dad!
Your Loving Son Derek
