On October 4, 2012 Robert J. DeLong, 83, went home to be with the Lord after battling Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s for the last five years. Bob was born in Cordell, Oklahoma, on April 2nd, 1929 and was raised in Carnegie, Oklahoma. Bob attended Oklahoma A&M where he received a degree in Accounting. He retired as Financial Vice-President of Grace Drilling. He married his sweetheart and celebrated sixty years of marriage with Betty Henderson DeLong on September 20, 2012. Bob served in the Air Force in the early 1950’s. He is survived by his wife Betty DeLong of Piedmont who provided astounding love, care and support throughout their life together. Bob was a wonderful father to his three daughters Terri King and husband Johnnie of Yukon, Pam DeLong of Yukon, and Dana Larkins and husband Bill of Piedmont. He was the best Papa and he is survived by Grandchildren Melissa Griffin and husband Danny of Mustang; Robby Moon of Oklahoma City; J.J. Taylor and wife Ashley of Piedmont; Brandon Taylor of Piedmont; Shauna Taylor of Yukon; Jacalyn King of Mustang; Bryan Taylor and fiancé Adriane of Nevada City, California; Betsy Taylor of Piedmont; Chelsea DaVoult and husband Gary of Duncan; and thirteen great grandchildren. Bob is also survived by sister Billye Tooman of Pauls Valley and brother Jerry DeLong of Waxahachie, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his parents Lotie and Barney DeLong, and siblings Aileen Montgomery, Barney DeLong, Jr., and Bettye Lee Whisenant.
Bob was an avid golfer who belonged to a golf team known as the Fraternal Order of Linksmen (FOOLS). One of his favorite accomplishments was a hole in one in 1960. He was a member of Putnam City United Methodist Church and a member of New Hope Sunday School Class. Bob’s family was his pride and joy and he will always occupy a loving place in our hearts. He was the heart and soul of our family and will be greatly missed. He is now waiting for us in Heaven where we will have a joyful reunion!!

Viewing will be held at Chapel Hill Funeral Home and services will be held at the Putnam City United Methodist Church on October 9th at 2:00 p.m.
