Ray Springer

He was born October 11, 1935 to F.E. Springer and Thelma Beatrice Warren Springer in Red Oak, OK. He grew up in Red Oak with his 8 brothers and sisters; Paul Springer, Edith Woodruff, Johnny Springer, Lester Springer, Faye Bacon Terry, Ellie Carter, Roy Springer, and Floyd Springer. He received his High School Diploma from Red Oak High School. On April 25, 1956 Ray married his wife Vesta Springer.

Ray served in the United States Navy as a member of the Seabees during the Korean war from 1953 to 1956. After the military, he was a Journeyman Electrician and Maintenance Foreman for Macklanburg-Duncan until he finally retired in 1994.

In Ray’s free time, he raised Longhorn cattle for many years. He loved hunting and fishing and enjoyed being in the outdoors. He also loved getting with friends and family to play dominoes or card games. Ray never tried to cheat no matter what anyone would say. Ray was part of the Longhorn association for many years. Ray and his late wife Vesta also had joined several bowling leagues.

Ray always stated his greatest achievement was that he has 8 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. He also would look through the newspaper to go to people’s funerals whether he knew them for a lifetime or was just an acquaintance to pay his respects.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, F.E. Springer and Thelma Beatrice Warren Springer; his wife, Vesta Springer; his 3 sisters, Faye Bacon Terry, Ellie Carter, Edith Woodruff; and his 3 brothers, Paul Springer, Lester Springer, and Roy Springer.

Ray survived by his son William “Butch” Pollard and his wife Debra A. Pollard; his daughter Shauna L. McDaniel and her husband Randy D. McDaniel; his 8 grandchildren; 22 greatgrandchildren; his 2 brothers Johnny Springer and Floyd Springer; and his special friend Juanita Wilson.
